Building Better Health Systems, the Faith Based Approach
Session Description:
In order to address the climate crisis, all of society must be engaged, utilizing each sector’s strengths to come together and find innovative ways to catalyze climate action. Health Systems have a unique opportunity to create meaningful change, as both a space of provision of care and response to the climate crisis and as a direct witness to the impacts of climate change. The health sector is also responsible for as much as 4.6% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and access to healthcare is highly inequitable both globally and locally in many developing and developed countries. This session reflects on the role that Health Systems play in responding to the climate crisis and proposes the critical role that faith-based organizations play in the greening of medicine, transforming health systems to become more sustainable, and showcasing the different ways and strategies that faith values and actions can help usher in a just and equitable transition of health systems.
