Changing Textures in Christian-Jewish Encounter & Dialogue
Session Description:
This session looks at the changing climate and texture of Christian-Jewish dialogue. The session consists of diverse religious perspectives- Lutheran, Roman Catholic, and Jewish offering differing observation points. We look at the role of politics in contemporary Christian-Jewish Dialogue, especially political parties, and allegiances. We explore the role of recent statements and encyclicals of Pope Francis for the future of Catholic-Jewish relations and religious pluralism and mission. We look at recent attempts by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to bring the encounter to a grassroots level to facilitate change. And look at where the current theological discussion between Christians and Jews is on supersessionism, the law, the land of Israel, and the Trinity. The session provides an overview to those who want to hear the current state of the field in the context of faith and democracy.
