Religion and Human Rights
Session Description:
Religion and human rights are often seen as two distinct categories of thought, but in reality they share a complex relationship. Religion has been used to both protect and restrict human rights, while international law has shaped the interpretation of religious doctrine when it comes to protecting the rights of individuals. This session looks at the ways in which religion and human rights interact on a global level through an interfaith perspective. We discuss how religious teachings can be used to protect or enhance human rights including action-based examples that participants can bring home to their own communities.
