Repentance and Repair: A Christian Confrontation of Antisemitism and Islamophobia
Session Description:
This presentation highlights the Presbyterian Church (USA) Statement Denouncing Antisemitism and Islamophobia as a tool and guide for wider interfaith work between Christians, Muslims, and Jews. We briefly trace some of the historical and theological roots of both forms of hatred, clearly defining each form of hatred using the words of Muslim and Jewish persons themselves and naming connections to White supremacy. We then offer some examples of how our congregations are living into this denouncement of Antisemitism and Islamophobia through engagement and dialogue with Muslim and Jewish siblings in their context. This session aims to model how Christians might confront the sins of antisemitism and Islamophobia in our own histories and theologies, and begin the long but holy process of repentance and repair.
