Human Rights, Creation Rights: A Christian View of Eco-Redemption

Session Description:

Christians are admonished to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature,” but the world, and most of its creatures, are in peril. When Jesus spoke these words, humans were already scrambling for the resources of a finite planet. Today it’s at the breaking point. The foundational notion of human rights, and human dignity, is a more equitable distribution of the resources of this planet—resources that, in the Christian view, God gave freely to all. Representing mainstream Anglican, Evangelical, and Pentecostal points of view, presenters explore why their religion, based on love, has long neglected and even exploited, the Earth and her non-human inhabitants, as well as marginalizing the poor, the group for whom Jesus expressed the most concern. They won’t stop with what’s wrong, however: they’ll offer a powerful, practical message of the precise steps Christians and all people can take now to do something downright godly: save this planet.
