Religion and Human Rights: An Interfaith Panel

Session Description:

A panel of Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, and Hindu speakers discusses specific human rights, including civil liberties and economic and social rights, as found in the texts and histories of their religions, including instances where human rights were upheld and instances where they were not. The session explores such questions as: What rights does each religion advocate? How has each religion and its teachings influenced the development of human rights in society? To what extent are these religious traditions compatible with the UN Declaration of Human Rights and the US Bill of Rights? What human rights are adherents of these religions striving to implement today? And how can interfaith understanding and cooperation facilitate the observance of human rights? There is ample time for discussion and questions with the audience.
